Unit area: 420 sq. ft.

Project Description

As pets gradually become part of the family, how to create a comfortable residence for humans and pets has become one of the important topics in modern residential design. In this renovation project of Tsui Tong Garden in Sai Kung, the designer targeted the needs of a couple and their dog, cleverly integrating beauty, practicality and storage functions to create an ideal home for them.

The main feature of the units in Sai Kung Tsui Tong Garden is the spacious living room, while the bedrooms are relatively small. The designer needed to fully consider the lifestyle of the couple and their dog within a limited space and achieve a balance between functionality and beauty.

The hostess wanted to have enough storage space, so the designer ordered a hidden sliding door wardrobe for her, which not only saves the space needed to open the door, but also keeps the room tidy. In addition, the custom-made platform bed provides more storage space to meet the storage needs of the homeowner.

The whole house is mainly in Muji style. Since the kitchen adopts an open design, in order to more clearly separate the kitchen and living room areas, the designer used a gypsum board ceiling to separate the living room and kitchen, and chose a combination of earth tones and star-reticulated ecological boards for the kitchen cabinets. The living room mainly uses off-white tones and wood grains. The combination of different colors makes the separation between the two spaces more distinct and unobtrusive.

In addition, the hidden spotlight trough design in the gypsum board ceiling of the living room is integrated and is less likely to collect dust than ordinary light troughs, making it convenient for daily maintenance and bulb replacement, and improving the convenience of living.

Taking into account the couple's living habits, the designer designed an open kitchen and customized a bar counter to serve as their dining table. Hidden beneath the bar is a folding table that can be pulled out to entertain guests. The wall where the induction cooker is located is made of stone-grained rubber sheets, creating a seamless effect that is both beautiful and easy to clean.

The owner has high-end requirements for the toilet, so the designer chose a darker color to contrast with the Japanese Muji style of the living room. The walls and floor tiles are all made of plain color, and the cabinets at the wash basin and the shower gel placement are made of wood grain. The combination of color and wood grain enhances the overall sense of luxury.

Taking into account the owner’s dog, the designer designed a dog activity space at the window sill and wrapped the edge of the window sill with wood to avoid the impact of paint on the dog. The shoe cabinet near the door has a unique design. The upper floor is used to store shoes, and the lower floor is a play space for dogs. In addition, the bed in the bedroom is parallel to the window sill. The owner can place soft cushions on the window sill so that the dog can enjoy sleeping time with the owner.

Gongcuitang Garden is a residence near the sea, and the home is likely to be in an environment of high humidity and salt for a long time. Coupled with the fact that the homeowner has pets at home, the choice of paint surface and undercoat becomes particularly important. Our master will first perform base treatment, that is, remove the old latex paint and lime base. A moisture-resistant primer will then be applied to enhance the paint's adhesion, and its anti-fungal properties will provide additional protection. Then 2 to 3 coats of lime are applied over the primer, and finally 2 to 3 coats of latex paint are applied to complete the entire painting project.

In terms of paint selection, we chose Nippon Paint’s lambskin series latex paint. This kind of latex paint is designed for environmental protection and health. This series of products usually contains lower volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can reduce the impact on air quality after evaporation. Its non-toxic formula helps reduce potential health risks to humans and animals, making it safer for children and pets.

The residential renovation project at Tsui Tong Garden in Sai Kung successfully combines the needs of humans and pets to create a living environment that is both beautiful and practical. Through the design of the separation between the living room and the kitchen, the high-end feel of the toilet, the activity area specially designed for dogs, and even the choice of home paint, the designer's attention to detail is demonstrated, creating an ideal home where humans and dogs can be harmonious.
