Residential Design
Village House Renovation: 大埔下坑
Unit area: 700 sq. ft.
Project Description
After more than three years of epidemic, online shopping has almost become a part of urban people’s daily life. Online, people can choose the furniture and home products they like and build their ideal home in person.
In this renovation project for a basement village house unit in Ha Hang, Tai Po, the interior designer not only redesigned the interior layout for the owner, but also needed to coordinate with the home furnishings ordered by the owner. Even if the home is stocked with a large number of home products purchased online, designers can still retain the design sense of the home.
Homeowners like to shop online and often order home furnishings. When redesigning a unit, designers need to consider how to match the home furnishings of the homeowner and make good use of the home furnishings ordered by the homeowner. In order to achieve the effect that the homeowner wants, the designer needs to know three basic information, including the size of the home product, its purpose and the place of application. This allows the designer to determine whether the home product is suitable for a new design or if another solution is needed to meet the homeowner's needs. For example, if a homeowner orders smart light switches and smart lights online, the designer may need to recalculate the connection locations of the wires to ensure the normal use of the smart lights.
The toilet mirror cabinets in Tai Po Xiakeng have lighting and anti-fog functions. The price of mirror cabinets purchased online is even cheaper than custom-made mirror cabinets. In addition, online shopping also makes it easier for homeowners to purchase household items that are not available in the Hong Kong market, such as kitchen spice racks and wash basins, making homeowners more willing to order household items online. However, designers do not encourage homeowners to order all their home furnishings and equipment online. For example, because the structure or details of toilet faucets are not suitable for Hong Kong homes, there may be problems with loose parts or water leakage, and its durability cannot be guaranteed.
The owners of Xiakeng in Tai Po are a couple who have no children but have many pets. Therefore, one room in the three-bedroom unit was designed as a pet room, and the other two rooms were opened up to serve as the master room and dressing room.
At the same time, the owner likes light luxury style, so the entire unit in Tai Po Xiakeng adopts earth tones, and is matched with rose gold, champagne gold and other colors. For example, the door frames are finished in champagne gold with custom-made art glass. For designers, it is also a big challenge to unify the metal color throughout the house, which requires careful selection and processing to ensure that the metal color matching throughout the house is consistent.
Since village houses are prone to moisture, Japanese sheepskin paint is used on most of the walls in the unit. This paint is not prone to mold and is easy to clean even if it does. Artistic paint is used on one wall because this material is less susceptible to moisture and mold than ordinary paint. Art paints have unique textures that can add a sense of design to your home.
In this village house renovation project in Ha Hang, Tai Po, the designer fully understood the homeowner’s preferences and needs and made good use of the home furnishings ordered by the homeowner. The integration of online homeware shopping and interior design creates a unique and ideal light luxury home.
