Project Description

Renovation of old buildings can not only solve old problems, but also remodel the units to give them a new look. In this residential renovation project of Whampoa Garden Phase 10, the interior designers re-planned the partitions of the units in response to the needs of the household owners and customized furniture to greatly increase the storage space of the units.

In the decoration and planning of the entire unit, except for the parts that cannot be dismantled or modified, such as the wall between the kitchen and the living room, because this wall is the main wall of most units in Huangpu Garden, the designer re-planned the entire unit according to the needs of the household owner and transformed it into a space that can meet the living and storage needs.

This unit in Whampoa Garden Phase 10 is a three-bedroom unit. Since the owner has three children and hires a helper, they have greater needs for room planning and storage space. The head of the household did not want the three children to be confined to their own rooms when they grew up, so the head of the household requested that the three children sleep in the same bedroom. Based on this requirement, the designer opened up the two bedrooms, demolished the corridor wall, and transformed it into a custom-made wardrobe. This turns the room into a space of about 200 feet, which also includes three beds, three desks, three wardrobes and bookcases. Since the owner of the household has two sons and a daughter, the designer also designed a glass door in the bedroom to separate the daughter's and son's spaces in the future, creating a room-within-a-room structure.

In addition, the designer customized a platform bed in the master room of the unit and added cabinets on each wall to add a large amount of storage space to meet the storage needs of the owner's family.

However, the biggest challenge facing the residential renovation in Huangpu Garden Phase 10 is the problem of worker housing. In addition to the master room, the two bedrooms have been opened up as children's rooms. The living room of the unit in Whampoa Garden Phase 10 is diamond-shaped, with one side leading to the kitchen and one side to the bathroom. There is no extra space that can be divided into workers' rooms. Therefore, the designer took advantage of the characteristics of the diamond-shaped living room, added a taller cabinet outside the kitchen door, and placed it against the sloping wall to serve as a worker's bed and the interval between the living room and the kitchen. The partition cabinets in the corridor extend all the way to the living room, and there is still enough space to place the piano and harp, ensuring that the head of the household has enough space for activities and storage.

Finally, this residential renovation project is a low-rise unit facing the road and the sea. In order to solve the noise problem, the designer ordered soundproof double-glazed windows. Since this project is for the renovation of units, it also solves the problem of water seepage in the exterior walls that often occurs in the old buildings in Huangpu Garden.

The residential renovation project of Whampoa Garden Phase 10 has brought a new look to the units by re-planning the partitions, customizing furniture, and solving various existing problems in the old buildings. It not only meets the needs of the household owners, but also increases storage space and living comfort.
