Residential Renovation: 青衣海欣花園

Unit area: 430 feet

Project Description

In addition to the small size of housing in Hong Kong, residents also have the opportunity to encounter diamond-shaped units. Most people will think that this type of unit is difficult to make practical, but in fact, as long as the interior designer cleverly designs and customizes the furniture, these units can also become practical and beautiful.

In this renovation project of Hoi Yan Garden, the rooms and living rooms of the units are designed in a diamond shape, which is very impractical. There are two people living in this unit. The owner likes to plant flowers. He hopes that the diamond-shaped unit in "Iwaji" will become practical after renovation, and at the same time there will be enough space to place potted plants.

First, the window sill in the living room has a narrow corner. This small corner was originally unable to accommodate a sofa or a custom-made cabinet, as it was structurally impractical. Therefore, the designer connected the window sill and the TV cabinet so that the small corner can be used to place some small potted plants or other objects.

In addition, although the diamond-shaped units in Hoi Yan Garden have sloping walls, they also have a pair of parallel walls. This means that the wall behind the sofa does not need to be modified in any way and can directly face the TV. However, since the space is narrow and can only accommodate a two-seater sofa, this design is more suitable for small families. The wall behind the TV is made of ecological boards with a cross-shaped pattern, and there are some small holes in the corners for the householder to add shelves to facilitate the placement of plants or other items.

Another three-pointed octagonal position in the diamond-shaped unit is located at the end of the bed in the bedroom. Originally this location was a triangular location, but after a three-foot bed was placed, this location became unusable. At the same time, this triangular position also has the only window and air conditioner location in the room. If you customize a wardrobe, it will block the windows and affect the lighting in the room. Therefore, designers need to tailor the room to solve this problem without wasting space.

In the end, the designer decided to order a desk with a cabinet at the end of the bed and a slanted table top in a triangular position, forming a desk about two feet wide. At the same time, enough space is reserved for placing chairs, so that when the owner uses the desk, he can face the computer and the window, improving the practicality of the room without wasting extra space.

All in all, the diamond-shaped residential units in Hoi Yan Garden have successfully become more practical and beautiful after renovation and custom-made furniture. These designs and modifications not only solve the problem of impractical units, but also cater to the preferences of the household owners, allowing them to better utilize the space and enjoy an ideal living environment.
