Project Description

If there are elderly people at home, what should you pay attention to when renovating your home? This Yong Jing Terrace renovation project not only solves the water seepage problem in elderly residential buildings, but also adds small details specially designed for the elderly, so that the owner and his father can live comfortably and securely.

Yong King Terrace is a 30-year-old residential building. The unit has serious water seepage problems, and even every window has water seepage. To solve this problem, the entire renovation project took three and a half months. However, due to the epidemic, the owner was unable to return to the unit for the time being. Until one day, when the owner's father returned to the unit to check, he accidentally discovered that the ceiling was dripping due to moisture. Fortunately, the interior designer originally chose Norwegian seamless flooring, which can effectively isolate water and prevent damage to the floor due to water seepage.

However, the veneer surface wallpaper of the unit cannot avoid damage due to moisture, so the designer can only lay new wallpaper for the homeowner. For residences like Yongjing Terrace located in mid-mountain areas or prone to moisture, residents should regularly use dehumidifiers or air conditioners to reduce moisture in the air to prevent moisture damage to walls, floors and ceilings.

The ceiling of each restroom in Yongjingtai is equipped with a first-level protrusion, and water pipes are placed inside. Considering that older homes may have aging water pipes, water pipes should be replaced every time a home is renovated to reduce the risk of water seepage.

In order to make his father's life more comfortable, the owner left the largest master room to his father, while he and his wife used the guest room. The design also takes special consideration into the needs of the elderly. For example, the height of the bed frame is customized based on the calculated height of the mattress. Generally, the height of the bed is 18 to 20 inches, but the bed height of this project is 23 to 24 inches. This height allows the elderly to stand more easily without expending too much effort, making it easier for them to get up. The headboard is upholstered rather than hardwood, and the floor has a rough surface to avoid the risk of slipping. In addition, the table corners are also rounded to reduce the risk of collisions.

Additionally, details designed specifically for seniors include adding armrests at various locations throughout the home and placing more seats to provide more support and places to rest.

In residential renovation, it is very important to tailor furniture or facilities to the needs of the residents, especially the elderly. In addition to solving the water seepage problems in old homes, designers and homeowners hope to improve the safety and comfort of the home through design details to create a warm home suitable for the elderly.
